The southbound trip from Binghamton stopped at Hallstead for the locals. During the stop, I was able to get a shot of the engine crew. The engineer is legendary D&H man Bernie OBrien, looking for all the world like its 1948. This is the same man who has his name on the side of D&H 7312. |

Turn, turn, turn |
Description: |
There has not been a turntable at Binghamton for many years, so to turn the train, it was run up Southern Tier track 1 from BD to QD, backed up the Buffalo runner past the crossovers at the south end of Bevier St, then run back over the D&H, crossing the Tier at BD, then south. Here it is at the south end of Bevier St. The line to the left is the ex DLW Syracuse and Utica Branch, now the NYSW Northern Division. |

No, its not a return of the Albany-Binghamton train....Steamtown ran an excursion coubleheaded with CP 2317 and CN 3254 for the Railphoto Weekend in 1992, to Binghamton and return. The train has dropped the riders off for a barbecue lunch, and is now turning via Bevier St and BD to head south. The D&H station is to the left of the train. |

Run around |
Description: |
There are no turning facilities in most places, even some that once had them. As a result, sometimes power has to run backwards, as is the case here. CP 2317, which ran forward up from Scranton, now runs around its train, and will roll backward down the hill. It still makes a good looking scene under one of the many old DLW signal bridges still in place on this line, once the Route of Phoebe Snow. |

Birthday girl |
Description: |
My wife(she wasnt yet in this photo) was adventurous, so when I suggested we take a ride behind a steam engine, she was all for it. She posed with one of the drivers on UP 4012 here, four days after her birthday, showing how big they are. She had a good time that day, and would do it again. |

Ready to head back |
Description: |
To facilitate a more efficient move, the power was changed from CP 2317 to DL 2461 at Tobyhanna, eliminating the need for the Pacific to run backsards with the train on return to Scranton. The unit is right at home here, as it was once an"EL unit, and trod this path routinely. |

NKP and Alcos too |
Description: |
The NKP unit is part of the Steamtown collection. Sometimes the historic look of the site is broken by interlopers, in this case an M 420 and C 425 of the road that does the freight work between here and Portland PA, the Delaware Lackawanna. |
