Some Things Never Change
Title:  Some Things Never Change

Springfield Terminal
Title:  Springfield Terminal
Description:  More history along the side of the hood on this switcher. The most obvious is the lettering for Springfield Terminal, evidence from the days when Guilford attempted to consolidate operations and equipment of their larger railroad companies under the name and operating rules of a former Vermont shortline. Not as easy to spot but still visible under the gray is lettering of the Boston & Maine consistent with the maroon and gold scheme of the 1950s.

Contoocook Depot
Title:  Contoocook Depot
Description:  Constructed by B&M predecessor Concord & Claremont Railroad in 1850, the depot came under the control of the "Route of the Minuteman" about thirty seven years later. Serving as a gateway to the rest of the country by rail for passegners until 1955, the line still saw freight trains until the early 1960s. Althought no more trains pass, the depot now serves as a museum to share the exciting history of the railroad in this part of the Granite State.

Contoocook Bridge

Built in 1889, it is believed to have been the design of Jonathan Parker Snow of the Boston & Maine Railroad. While it no longer sees the passage of trains, it serves as a walkway over the river flowing through town, held in place by the granite abutments from a previous bridge at this location.

NECR 3040
Title:  NECR 3040
Description:  Resting in the last rays of daylight in front of the historic 1937 railroad station, this locomotive was built in 1974 by GMD as Canadian National 9495. This model of GP40 has become commonplace in New England as quite a few of the major roads have at least one operating example. The unit's paint job is becoming a rarity due to the G&W takeover of RailAmerica a few years prior. Also note the new E-bell on the front of the locomotive.
