Album Info:Here is 14-page camera study by Mr. W.A. Feibelman entitled "Altoona Interlude." It was published originally in his (1979) monograph entitled "Rails To Pittsburgh: 1945-1970." Also included is the monograph's front cover, featuring a watercolor illustration by the author. "After obtaining a ticket and clearance from the Pennsylvania Railroad, I was looking forward to that important day in February of 1949 when I would climb aboard a shiny new Baldwin Diesel for a never to be forgotten ride from Pittsburgh to Altoona, and return in the cab of an EMD E-7." Top Photo Caption: "Having arrived at Altoona, the fireman is leaving the mirror-shiny Sharknose 5785, which is less than a year old." Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5785 is a BP-20 built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in November of 1948, rated at 2,000 horsepower, rebuilt as a BF-16Z freight unit rated at 1,600 horsepower in 1952, and retired in 1962. Note the steam locomotive parked near the 12th Street Footbridge.

All are EH-15's built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9687 was constructed in February of 1949, later regeared and reclassified as an EF-15A, and retired in October of 1967. The twin smokestacks belong to the power plant for the PRR's Passenger Car Shops. Bottom Photo: Prominent here is PRR engine #9684, an EH-15 built by GM-EMD in February of 1949, rated at 1,500 horsepower, later regeared and reclassified as an EF-15A, and retired in December of 1963.
