Album Info:The Olympic Peninsula is not what one would consider a busy railroading area. One of the most distinct landforms in the state of Washington, the peninsula runs northwest from Olympia, creating the inlet of Puget Sound, and boxing in most of what is now the Seattle-Tacoma area. While mainline railroads flocked to the Seattle area, few ventured onto the Peninsula. The major exception was the Milwaukee Road, which bought several local railroads, and ran rail barge services from Port Townsend to Anacortes. When the Milwaukee folded in 1980, the Peninsula line became the Seattle & North Coast Railroad. This company would operate the line with a small fleet of ex-MILW switchers and ex-BN F-units. Rail barge service was transferred to Seattle, however the railroad as a whole would cease operations just four years later in 1984. Today, the Port Angeles Line is abandoned, and the only rail service on the Peninsula is provided by the Puget Sound & Pacific, a railroad running along the base of the peninsula from Centralia to Hoquiam, with a branch line serving the military/navy installations in Bremerton and Bangor.

MILW Caboose
Title:  MILW Caboose
Description:  This Milwaukee Road cupola caboose is beached in Sequim, Washington, near MILWs Port Angeles line (later the Seattle & North Coast Railroad mainline). The caboose is likely in the Milwaukees 1600 series of standard cupola cabooses. This car appears similar to photographs of MILW 1608, a regular of the Bellingham Area.

New Life For Two Cabooses
Title:  New Life For Two Cabooses
Description:  Two ex-BN cabooses and others rest in Sequim. The Olympic Railway Inn rents out the cabooses to visitors. Burlington Northern 12363 retains its cascade green and yellow colors, while BN 12094 has been repainted into a red Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe homage livery. Santa Fe never actually rostered a caboose numbered 12094.

CR 23071
Title:  CR 23071
Description:  Conrail 23071 is a long way from home at its new home in Sequim, Washington. The ex-Pennsylvania Railroad caboose (cabin car in Pennsy parlance) was built sometime during WWII as PRR 477872, a class N-5C cabin car. The N-5s were among the most common cabooses in America, and many ended up passed on to PRR successors Penn Central and Conrail. The car was renumbered to CR 23071, and lasted in service until the late 70s/early 80s. Somehow, the car found its way to the Olympic Railway Inn, where it is now used as a cottage.
