This massive 2-8-8-2 "Chesapeake" type steam locomotive was built by Alco-Brooks in March of 1918 originally as Buffalo, Rochester & Pittsburgh #800. After the B&O purchased the BRP, the loco was renumbered in 1938 to B&) #7316 as seen here. It lasted in service until being scrapped on December 20, 1950 after 32 years of total service. Original specs - XX class, (BRP) and EE-2 (B&O) 57" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 28x32" high pressure cylinders, 44x32" low pressure cylinders, engine wt of 569,000 lb, and an impressive tractive effort of 113,000 lb. Here is another of the massive 2-8-8-2 "Chesapeake" type steam locomotive built by Alco-Brooks in March of 1918. Originally it was Buffalo, Rockester & Pittsburgh 2-8-8-2 #805 but after the B&O bought the BRP in 1932, it was renumbered eventually to B&O #7321 in 1938. The loco The loco was finally sold for scrap in December of 1951. Specs - 200 psi boiler pressure, 28x32" high pressure cylinders and 44x32" low pressure cylinders, 57" drivers, engine weight of 569,000 lb and 113,000 lb tractive effort. No photographer, date or location was listed for the photo so an approximate date was used. The yard appears to be the one in Bubois, PA , where several of these behemoths were serviced. |
