Description: |
AHC. Here is the first of four successive duplicate 35mm color slides of photos by Bill Price that were taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 13 August 1951. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6409, a J-1A (2-10-4) "Texas" built in Juniata during June of 1943 and retired in August of 1958 after just 15 years of revenue service. It's passing under Signal Bridge #2416, and is about to round the Curve with a mixed-cargo freight train on its way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. Note that the "Dog House" is occupied! |
