PRR 6001, EF-25A, 1965 |
Description: |
Rainy. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 12 October 1965. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #6038 and #6001. Both are EF-25A's built by EMD in 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. They are pushing a 95-car iron-ore train on the Hollidaysburg Branch Line to the Wye Switches and up the New Portage/Muleshoe Curve route to Gallitzin, where they will uncouple and head back to East Altoona for another run up the Allegheny Mountains. The caboose is N-5C #477898. Also visible is the interlocking directly in front of ALTO Tower (not shown) and the headlight beam for an on-coming coal train pulled by engine #8570. This photo taken from the 17th Street Bridge. |

PC 6001 |
Description: |
A southbound (railroad west) TV train on the Big Four at Crestline. The top of Crest tower is just barely visible above the U25B while the former PRR diamonds are back under the third or fourth car in the train. This scene looks completely different now because the road crossing has been replaced with a highway overpass. PC 6001 would later become Conrail 6001, finally sold for scrap to Pielet Brothers in 5/83. |

Tyrone. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Tyrone, Pennsylvania, on 15 Mby 1965. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #6008 and #6030. Both are EF-25A's built by EMD in 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. They are pulling a 137-car eastbounf mixed-cargo freight train with caboose #477789 through the Tyrone Station. |
