A note on the back of the photo states "Shot near Cumberland, MD. Taken from an old photo 2 1/2 x 4" taken by a box camera in 1938 (I have the neg of this)" by an unknown photographer. SpecfIcs - I-2 class, 61" drivers, impressive 240 psi boiler pressure, 30x32" cylinders, engine weight of 419,280 lb, impressive tractive effort of 96,315 lb. The date used in 1938 is approximate. |

This appears to be either a Baldwin builder's photo with specs at the bottom or an in-house Western Maryland photo with the specs for this massive decapod steam locomotive. It was officially built by Baldwin in June of 1927 (serial #60053, class I-2). The specs are listed at the bottom of the photo. The entire class was retired around 1954 when diesels took over the duties. |
