WM 2-8-8-2 #909 - Western Maryland
Title:  WM 2-8-8-2 #909 - Western Maryland
Description:  This 1915 Lima built Chesapeake type locomotive demonstrated that Lima knew how to build strong locomotives to meet the growing need for more power. This class L-1 had small 52" drivers, could develop an impressive 210 psi of boiler pressure to feed to its set of 26"x30" high pressure cylinders and its set of 40"x30" low pressure cylinders. The engine weight tipped the scales at 506,500 lb and it could apply a respectable tractive effort of 97,877 lb. Note the man almost swallowed up by the loco just behind the first set of cylinders. Small problem listing this correct on the website - no choice for Lima 2-8-8-2 available. Date is approximate. Max Miller photo

WM 909
Title:  WM 909
Description:  Historical marker placed by the Pennsylvania DCNR at the location where the Western Maryland Railway's Ohiopyle Low Bridge used to be. I felt this was worth posting, as there is only one other Alco 2-8-0 from the Western Maryland on this website. The train was photographed sometime in the 1920's.
