CBQ 4-8-4 #5629 |
| Description: |
Built in West Burlington, Iowa in June 1940, No. 5629 was one of 15 engines—numbered 5621 to 5635—that constituted the last new class of steam locomotives. Designed for fast freight and heavy passenger service, No. 5629 began its career on the Chicago to Denver mainline. It was transferred to the Twin Cities in the mid-1940s and made its way back west in 1950, hauling freight between Lincoln, Nebraska and Denver, Colorado. After being converted from burning coal to oil, it was stored in Lincoln and served as a stationary boiler, providing heat to the Lincoln station during a renovation in the winter of 1961. On August 30, 1963, CB&Q Vice President J.J. Alms presented No. 5629 to the Colorado Railroad Museum Rail fan Jim Lockart took this color slide on one of his trips to the museum. |

CBQ Business Car #96 |
| Description: |
Barney and Smith built No. 96 in 1886 for the Chicago, Burlington & Northern (CB&N) as No. B-99. The car was renumbered Chicago, Burlington & Quincy (CB&Q) No. 90 in 1902. And, in 1906, it was completely rebuilt by CB&Q and received its final number—No. 96. Retired in 1962, No. 96 was sold to the Intermountain Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society in Denver. The Chapter ran the car over 25,000 miles, attaching it as an excursion car to the Denver & Rio Grande, Union Pacific and other railroads. With the introduction of Amtrak, No. 96 no longer met the mechanical standards of modern railcars, and in 1972 was placed permanently on display at the Colorado Railroad Museum. In 2006, the Intermountain Chapter donated No. 96 to the Museum, where today it is used to entertain guests and host small meetings. |

Colorado Midland Observation #111/ Midland Terminal #29 |
| Description: |
Originally built as a first class coach in 1897 by the Pullman Comapny, it was rebuilt in 1905 as a parlor observation for the Colorado Midland as #111. In 1913 the large vestibule was added. When CM ceased operations in 1919-20, Midland Terminal acquired the car and renumbered it 29. In 1949, the car was sold to Arthur B. Hall who sold the car to the Colorado RR Museum in 1960. Rail fan Jim Lockart took this color slide of it on one of his trips to the museum. |

D&RGW No. 318 is a C-18 class 2-8-0 "Consolidation" type narrow gauge steam locomotive built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works of Philadelphia, PA in January 1896 for the Florence and Cripple Creek Railroad, F&CC 2-8-0ng #428, which would later sell it off to the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad (D&RG), later known as the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad (D&RGW). In 1954, Cornelius W. Hauck acquired the locomotive and put it on public display with his Narrow Gauge Museum in Alamosa, CO. In 1958, the museum moved to its present site in Golden, CO and 318 operated under steam on the museum grounds from 1978 until 1982. Rail fan Jim Lockart photographed the senior member of the Colorado RR Museum when he visitied in 1980. |

DRGW 2-8-0ng #346 - Denver & Rio Grande Western |
| Description: |
D&RGW No. 346 is a C-19 class 2-8-0 "Consolidation" type narrow gauge steam locomotive built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1881 for the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad (D&RG), later known as the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad (D&RGW). It was originally named "Cumbres" and wore road number 406. Loco #406 was primarily used in helper service. In 1923, it was renumbered 346, and in 1924, it was fitted with a new boiler. 346 was wrecked on Kenosha Pass after the locomotive rolled over on a curve. 346 was rebuilt in the Denver shops. 346 was sent to the Montezuma Lumber Company in 1947, to be used on the Rio Grande Southern just outside of Durango. When the mill burned down, the engine was no longer needed. Bob Richardson, one of the museum founders, bought 346 in 1950, and managed to get it to Alamosa, where he placed the locomotive at the Narrow Gauge Motel. Built by the DRGW Shops in 1928, Denver & Rio Grande Western K-37 class 2-8-2ng #491 was The D&RGW operated #491 from 1928 to 1963, but in 1947 it added thermic siphons to improve efficiency by increasing heating surface area in the firebox. After sitting in a static display for decades, in August 2014, locomotive #491 was restored to operating condition at the Colorado Railroad Museum and operated for the first time in public on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at the annual Thomas the Tank Engine event. A ticketed "roll out" was hosted on August 29, 2014. Rail fan Jim Lockart found this loco as a static display piece when he visitied the Museum. |

According to Baldwin records, Denver, South Park & Pacific 2-8-0ng #191 was built in January of 1890 as DSPP #51. It was a 3' gauge loco with 36" drivers and 15x18" cylinders. The loco went to Union Pacific, Denver & Gulf as their 191 > Denver, Leadville & Gunnison #191 > Colorado & Southern #31 > Edward hines Lumber > Robbins Lumber Co #7 Thunder Lake RR . In 1973, the loco was purchased by the Colorado RR Museum. Rail fan Jim Lockart photographed it on one of this trips to the museum. |

After the F&CC went bankrupt in 1915, the locomotive, along with two other members of its class, were sold to the Rio Grande Southern Railroad Company (RGS). In 1952, as the RGS was coming to a close, the locomotive was sold to the Rocky Mountain Railroad Club and later donated to the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden, Colorado. Rail fan Jim Lockart photographed this loco on his trip to the Museum in 1980. |
