High end |
Description: |
The LIRR had run parlor cars to the east end for all of the 20th century, even fielding a through Pullman from Pittsburgh in the 1920s during the years it was a Pennsy subsidiary. As the 60s wore on, and many roads were eliminating their long distance trains, cars became available at bargain basement prices, and LIRR picked up quite a few from all over. Here we see the Montauk, formerly New Havens car Goshen Point, acquired in 1969. Also of note, at right, a partial view of one of the ex DLW Phoebe Snow lounges that ran on the LIRR til Metro North commandeered them for office cars. |
