Built by Budd in 1950 for Southern Pacific's Golden State Limited as SP #9020, one of 25 cars ordered in 06-1948 by SP for that train. Configured as a 10/6 sleeper the car was sold to Amtrak and numbered 2696 In 1980 the car had the interior refurbished and HEP installed at Beech Grove, renumbered 2451 and named Birch Grove. Retired by Amtrak and sold at auction to Chuck Grisler in 1995. To Tom McOwens 1997. To Brian Collins (Cincinnati Railway Company) 2001 A major interior rebuilding was done by the Lancaster and Chester in 2006. In 2010 a 50 % share was sold to Harry Davis. Assigned PPCX #800736. Purchased by CSX 8/2020 along with Cincinatti Railway dome coach Moonlight Dome. |

CSX 6025, Ex-B&O 4125, is on W-001 at Ridgefield Park, NJ 11/9/2023. The first car is former SP 994527, the Birch Grove. It was built by Budd in 1950 for the Sunset Limited. How CSX acquired it is anyones guess, but it still runs in SP livery. Jacob Koppel answered this question: To answer your question about the 994527: In Spring 2021, CSX added 994527 SP Birchgrove private car to the W001 set. That was purchased at the same time as 994526; the moonlight dome/James M Foote car on the OCS. Both cars were from Mid Alantic Rail car. CSXT 994527 was former PPCX 800736 and part of AAPRCO. The 994527 was added to replace the lost dormitory/sleeper space from the old CSXT 994364 which was removed and retired from the W001 set in 2021. |
