Disfunction leads to Disaster
A rather pointless and misleading signal at Graniteville gives a clear indication as NS 155 roars up from behind. In the foreground is the switch where 155's counterpart collided head on with local P22, causing a major derailment followed by a chlorine spill that claimed many peoples lives and shuttered the towns main employer, Avondale Mills. You would think NS would have installed safety measures such as properly functioning signals to the line, but this is not the case.

Tim Huemmer General That thing is a spring switch indicator. It tells the position of the spring switch ahead at the S end of Vaucluse siding. The signal does not indicate any sort of block occupancy 1/10/2010 1:18:42 PM
Caleb Wright General People always blame the company. It was operator error(some even say Avondale hired them to do it.) 11/6/2012 2:44:45 PM
David Nutter General Great shot! 5/23/2013 2:19:37 AM
