The Chicago & Illinois Western was a switching subsidiary of the Illinois Central, having about 12 miles of main track and a couple more miles of trackage rights, running roughly along the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal from Willlow Springs on the west to about Western Avenue in Chicago on the east end.
