| Southern California's Metrolink commuter train service has been in operation since 1991, and at rush hour the stations become a sea of humanity - imagine that; not everyone is stuck on the freeway! Fullerton, not far from Disneyland, sees Metrolink service between Los Angeles and southern points (Irvine, Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo and Oceanside) and cities to the east (Riverside) as well. Here train 706 (a Los Angeles to Riverside train) disgorges passengers at the venerable old Santa Fe station (built in 1930) right on time. In moments, the train will depart and, at the end of the platform, switch to the middle main, as the track it is on heads south to Oceanside (and eventually San Diego) rather than east to Riverside (and Chicago). |
