Minimal rebranding of Chicago & North Western Railway GP7R 4146 at Chadron, Nebraska on July 22, 1981, Kodachrome by Jim Altman, Chuck Zeiler collection. Number 4146 was built in August 1952 as Wabash GP7 476 (c/n 17077), later renumbered to N&W 3476, purchased from the N&W, rebuilt at Silvis by the Rock Island for PNC, rebuilding completed May 2, 1975, leased from PNC by the Rock and numbered 4471. When the Rock Island shut down in 1980, the rebuilt units were returned to PNC, and later sold to the C&NW, and Rock Island 4471 became C&NW 4146 on July 31, 1981, retired on December 12, 1988, and sold to the Fox River Valley Railroad on January 12, 1989. |
