Yard Power. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pittsburgh & West Virginia Railroad locomotive at Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, during July of 1960. Shown here is P&WV engine #40, an AS-616 built by Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton in May of 1951 and rated at 1,600 horsepower; it was being leased by the PRR. This photo was taken from the old Union Street Bridge. The crew is moving some "junk" from Sender's into the westbound classification yard. These were the two main tracks in and out of the Hollidaysburg Yards, and they were located about where the Pennsylvania Main Line Canal's basins were situated in the mid-1800's. South Juniata Street is visible on the right. This photo taken from the northern end of the Union Street Bridge. |
