Doghouse. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad rolling stock just East of WYE Tower in Duncansville, Pennsylvania, during March of 1966. Shown here is a right-side view of the "Doghouse" on the second tender. The steel rods around the window were to protect the head-end brakeman from tree branches and other objects when he leaned out to inspect the cars of the train behind him. PRR Hopper Car #191117 may have been a 70-ton capacity H-21A, built at the Altoona Car Shops around 1916. It was in line to be scrapped, too. Also visible is the clock tower of the Blair County Court House in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania. |
