| A 3/4 shot of the massive SP/Rock Island station. Even though the Rock owned the track to Santa Rosa, another 50 miles west, the operating change was here. This was also the terminus for Rock Islands Choctaw Route trains, which connected to the Golden State route about a mile to the east. The right of way can be seen from the US 54 overpass, and can be followed to some extent all the way to Amarillo. The Golden State route, named for the train that plied these rails from Chicago to LA, is still an active part of the UP system. |
