Here is page two of a two-page track plan by Mr. George A. Gloff entitled "Horseshoe Curve And Approach To Gallitzin Tunnels." It was published originally in the May 1952 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 29. Included here is a map depicting Altoona and the Curve's location relative to Pennsylvania's geography. The photo by Fred McLeod shows Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6154, a J-1 (2-10-4) "Texas" built in Juniata in December of 1943 and retired in April of 1959 after just 16 years' service. |
