MP (NO&LC) S1 9015
The only blue-and-gray switch engines and cabooses on the Missouri Pacific Lines were on the railroad’s New Orleans & Lower Coast subsidiary. Here was Alco S1 9015 and caboose 2618 at the NO&LC’s headquarters in Algiers, the New Orleans neighborhood on the west side of the Mississippi River. The 9015 was the last of three Alcos (9013-9015) built for the NO&LC in October and November 1947. It was renumbered 6606 in 1961 and went to the Brooklyn Eastern District Terminal two years later, where it was renumbered 24. It was out of service by May 1978 and was scrapped in 1986. The 2618 was a war emergency caboose built by the MP from box car 40475 (ACF 1912) for its New Orleans, Texas & Mexico subsidiary in 1942. It went to the NO&LC after the war and was retired in 1967.
