CIL 0-6-0 #98 - Chicago, Indianapolis & Louisville
HELP! There was no data other than a stamp with the name "Richard D. Patton" and "CIL 0-6-0 98" on the back. I could not find any listing for an 0-6-0 #98 but thanks to Eric Reinert (see comment below) steering me to renumbered loco #38. Much thanks to you Eric! Bingo! Built by Alco-Brooks in October of 1923, this loco served until being scrapped in 1947. Specs - serial #64889, classnB-9, 57" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 23x28" cylinders, engine weight of 191,000 lb, tractive effort of 44,200 lb.

Eric Reinert General The Monon renumbered the last couple of 0-6-0's in 1947 near the end of steam. This is former number 38. The sounds of these engines working overnight, kicking cars and reassembling trains in South Hammond yard in the early to mid- '40's was what my Father fell asleep to on Summer nights, out his open window on their house on Van Buren Street. 25 years later it would be me on Jackson Ave. listening to NW-2's doing the same thing. Nice find, Gary! 1/22/2021 4:37:00 PM
