SILX SSB1200 1245
This close-up of the S&I Locomotive Services shop in Opelousas, Louisiana shows SILX SSB1200 1245. The locomotive had been built in January 1951 as Santa Fe TR4A 2419L, was renumbered 1419L in August 1974 and then rebuilt into SSB1200 1244 in August 1979. It was retired on 30 April 1985 and sold to the Cooperative Farm Chemicals Association at Lawrence, Kansas. CFCA was taken over by Farmland Industries, but Farmland went out of business in 2004 and the locomotive was acquired by S&I shortly before this photo was taken. The hood in the foreground originally belonged to Union Pacific NW2 1005.
