ARB. Here is an image showing the western side of the Pennsylvania Railroad's ROSE Tower in Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1946. This is the original structure which stood adjacent to the 8th Street Bridge in the background. Both west- and eastbound passenger tracks are at the left; the Yard is at the right. The Tower included offices for the Trainmaster and the Yardmaster, controlled certain Yard operations, and included some crew sleeping quarters. The large number of people of varying ages pictured here suggests that this was an open house or other special event. The photographer's name, the number of the locomotive at the right, and the date are not recorded. |
