This view was from the tender of Southern Railway 2-8-0 722 looking toward the engine house at New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal. The Motorola FIRECRACKER antenna had just been installed on the 722’s cab roof at the NOUPT shop, and the roof would be repainted red later that year. Southern Pacific GP9 3009 was sticking out of the diesel shop in the distance. It would depart at 12:01PM on the SUNSET LIMITED, along with FP7’s 6451, 6450 and 6454. |
