Amtrak. Here is an original 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken at the Penn Central Locomotive Shop's storage yard in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 2 February 1975. Among the many locomotives parked here is Amtrak engine #320 (at left), an E8A built as Pennsylvania Railroad number "5714" in October of 1952, rated at 2,250 horsepower, renumbered "4314" in preparation for the PRR-NYC merger, and renumbered "320" by Amtrak. Also visible is ex-New York Central engine #4066, an E8A built in June of 1953. From the George Povall Collection. |
