AHC. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Bill Price that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 13 August 1951. Shown here (R to L) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9597 and another "BF" Class unit whose road number is not recorded. Both were built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works. #9597 is a BF-16 constructed in April of 1951, rated at 1,600 horsepower, and retired in July of 1966 after just 15 years of revenue service. It must be hot in the cab since both emergency exit doors are open. Wave to the Engineman! |
