ARB. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by David R. Sweetland that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1960. Shown here (R to L) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5824 and another unit whose road number is not recorded. Both are BH-50's built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as BP-60's rated at 3,000 horsepower each, but later regeared and classified as BH-50's rated at 2,500 horsepower each. #5824 was constructed in May of 1947 and retired in April of 1962 after just 15 years of revenue service. Photo taken from the 8th Street Bridge in Juniata. |
