| With only 6 months left before it would be retired, Milwaukee Road 2-8-2 Mikado #424 still goes about its work at the Janesville WI yard. Built by Baldwin in September of 1922 as MILW 8324, it was subsequently renumbered in June of 1938 to MILW 424. The scrapper's torch ended the service record of 32 years in November of 1954. Specs - class L-2b, 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 26x30" cylinders, engine wt of 292,770 lb, tractive effort of 54,723 lb. No photographer was listed for the photo. |
