APR, "Sale of the Main Line of the Public Works," 1854
Here is an article headlined "Sale of the Main Line of the Public Works: Sealed Proposals Invited" that was published originally in the 10 May 1854 issue of the "Pittsburgh Post." The proposed sale of the Main Line of Public Works failed (due to no interested buyers), so the State of Pennsylvania continued to maintain and use the system for three more years until the Pennsylvania Railroad purchased it for $7,500,000 in 1857.
