Description:  Volkmer. Here is an image of a photo by William D. Volkmer that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 19 July 1958. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #8664, #8675, and #8665. All are AS-18AM's built by the American Locomotive Company in 1958 and rated at 1,800 horsepower each. #8664 and #8665 were constructed in February, while #8675 was built in March. They're on their way back to East Altoona after completing another helper/pusher run up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and back. They are pushing a westbound mixed-cargo freight train under the 17th Street Bridge. Also visible is PRR N-5 Caboose #477770.

Description:  24th Street. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 29 November 1964. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #8673, #8664, #8676, #8661, and #8669. All are AS-18AM's built by the American Locomotive Company in 1958 and rated at 1,800 horsepower each. They are pushing a 98-car iron-ore train (headed by engine #2225) up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin, where they will uncouple and head back down the Alleghenies to East Altoona for yet another run up the Mountains. At the very end is N-8 caboose #478124. The homes in the background line one side of Nltoona's 10th Avenue.

Description:  Altoona Action. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad locomotive in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 26 June 1965. Shown here is PRR engine #8664, an AS-18AM built by the American Locomotive Company in February of 1958 and rated at 1,800 horsepower. It is poised at the top of the hump for the PRR's Eastbound Classification Yards. The two structures sit adjacent to the car-weighing scales that are located there.
