Description:  Here is a photo by an unidentified photographer via Rail Photo Service that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1940. Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5372, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during May of 1924 and retired in 1955 after 31 years of faithful service. After completing a "helper" assignment up the east slope of the Allegheny Mountains and uncoupling at Gallitzin, it's rounding the Curve and heading back to Altoona for another run up "The Mountain." Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5372, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during May of 1924 and retired in 1955 after 31 years of faithful service. Perhaps it's just been refurbished in the Juniata Shops, and is on a shakedown run up "The Mountain" and then back down to Altoona for its next revenue assignment. (Track 2)
