Description: |
Kern. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Fred Kern that was taken near Matawan, New Jersey, on 27 August 1954. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5473, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during March of 1927, rebuilt in Juniata in 1944, and retired in February of 1956 after 29 years of faithful service. In this context, it's rockin' 'n' rollin' with a seven-car passenger train. Note the hand-throttle mounted on the smokebox. ("PrrFan18n") |
