BYC. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Fred Kern that was taken just West of the Brick Yard Crossing in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 23 July 1955. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #9452 and a "C-Liner" B-unit whose number is not recorded. Both are FF-16's built by Fairbanks-Morse and rated at 1,600 horsepower each. #9452 was built in September of 1950 and retired in April of 1965 after just 15 years of revenue service. They are braking a mixed-cargo freight train down the Allegheny Mountains to the Eastbound Receiving Yards in Altoona. |

ARB. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by David R. Sweetland that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in July of 1959. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9452 and two more "C-Liners" whose road numbers are not recorded. All are FF-16's built by Fairbanks-Morse and rated at 1,600 horsepower each. #9452 was built in September of 1950 and retired in April of 1965 after just 15 years of revenue service. They have just passed under the 8th Street Bridge in Juniata, and are heading to Enola and points East with a merchandise freight train. |
