UAMTK 326
Title:  UAMTK 326
Description:  8.10.2023. AMTK 326 Charger ALC-42 and AMTK 181 behind it waiting to lead the southbound City of New Orleans. Those of us traveling with scanners were to later discover the two main headlights beneath the windshield on this motor would not operate. We made it as far as Wildwood before Amtrak was able to put the 181 as lead engine. Th process took an agonizing 1.5 hours.

AMTK 320
Title:  AMTK 320
Description:  1.26.2024 Afton, VA. AMTK 320 leading the eastbound Cardinal #5025 through Afton as it passes a westbound empty CSX coal train. I heard over the scanner there was to be a meet at Afton. The Cardinal entered the passing track before I could get up to the signal to photograph it there. Though the State of Virginia owns this stretch of the former C&O Mountain Subdivision and it is operated by Buckingham Branch RR, CSX retains trackage rights from Richmond to Clifton Forge. Running empties up and over the mountain lessens the traffic on the James River line. The 5025 is running 23 minutes late. It's westbound counterpart AMTK #5126, is also being led this day by a new Siemens locomotive, AMTK 332.

AMTK 335 at close quarters
Title:  AMTK 335 at close quarters
Description:  I know.... I was a little late hitting the shutter. At this location, signal 184.6 just west of Charlottesville, they tend to sneak up on ya. Leaving west from Charlottesville Union Station, there is only one road crossing and it is just after the station. So there is no hint of a horn of a fast approaching train until they call the signal on the radio. By then, you get this if not paying attention. The signal is hidden by the fast approaching Cardinal.
