PRR 5793, EP-22, #1 of 2, 1952 |
Description: |
Oil Power. Here is the first of two duplicate 35mm color slides of photos by Don Flynn that were taken near Lakeville, Indiana, on 11 October 1952. Prominent here (R to L) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5793 and another unit whose road number is not recorded. Both are EP-22's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. #5793 was built in June of 1952. In this context, they are pulling a "Football Special." Note that the first car in the train is actually an observation car! |

"Modern Railroads," Pages 14-15, 1956 |
Description: |
Here is a photo from a reprint of the November 1956 issue of "Modern Railroads" magazine, pages 14-15. Photo Caption: "Diesel locomotives work 'under the wire' to help out during traffic peaks. PRR has enough electric locomotives to handle normal traffic. A more efficient operation today, gross ton miles per freight train hour rose from 37,150 in 1946 to 53,205 in 1955." Shown here at the Paoli Station (R to L) are PRR engines #5793 and another E-8 whose number is not recorded. Both were built by GM-EMD. #5793 is an EP-22 built in May of 1952 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. Also visible in the distance is PAOLI Tower. |

PRR 5793, EP-22, 1964 |
Description: |
Tipton. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Tipton, Pennsylvania, on 05 January 1964. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #5793, an unidentified E-8 unit, and #5881. All were built by EMD. #5793 is an EP-22 built in June of 1952 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. #5881 is an EP-20 built in April of 1949 and rated at 2,000 horsepower. They have just recently departed the Altoona Station with an 18-car passenger train, and are now heading to Harrisburg and points East. |
